The Natural Way to Nourish Your Pet in Ireland

We’re so glad you’ve found Carnivore Kelly’s, one of Ireland’s leading raw pet food specialists. Whether you’re just starting out or considering making the switch to a more natural diet for your dog or cat, you might be asking:

Why should I feed my pet a raw diet?

It’s a great question—and one we get asked all the time! While the science behind raw feeding can get detailed, we’re here to break it down simply.

If you have any further questions, our experienced team is always happy to help.

Raw Feeding Is Backed by Biology

Let’s start with what nature tells us. Raw feeding works because it’s what your pet was designed to eat.

  • Take a look at your dog or cat’s teeth. Notice anything? They have sharp incisors, made for tearing meat and crunching bones—not flat molars designed for chewing grains.

Carnivores don’t grind their food like herbivores or omnivores. Their jaws move up and down in a cutting motion—ideal for a raw diet.

  • Cats and dogs have short, acidic digestive systems that are perfectly equipped to handle raw meat, bone, and organ content. They produce minimal amylase (a carbohydrate-digesting enzyme), meaning kibble full of rice, grains, or fillers is tough on their bodies.

  • Your dog shares 99% of its DNA with wolves, and your cat is a descendant of the wildcats of the Middle East. Feeding them processed dry food every day goes against millions of years of evolutionary nutrition.

That’s why a species-appropriate raw food diet just makes sense—it mirrors what their bodies need to thrive.

Raw Feeding FAQ

  • Raw feeding means feeding your dog or cat a diet that mimics what they’d naturally eat in the wild — meat, bones, and organs — without fillers, additives, or grains.

  • Yes! Raw feeding can begin as early as 3–4 weeks of age. We recommend smaller portions and more frequent meals, and we’re happy to help with guidance.

  • Our meals are complete and balanced for most healthy pets. However, every animal is unique. If your vet recommends supplements, they can be added easily.

  • We advise against mixing raw with kibble in the same meal due to different digestion times. If transitioning, do separate meals (e.g., raw in the morning, kibble at night).

If you have any questions about getting started with raw feeding or transitioning, please get in touch with the team.
